ZIMBA at the 15th IEA Heat Pump Conference

21.05.2026

We are proud to share that the ZIMBA project is participating in the 15th IEA Heat Pump Conference 2026 in Vienna, a leading global event on heat pump technologies.

Under the theme “Decarbonisation through Innovation”, the conference brings together experts from research, industry, and policy to explore the latest advances in sustainable heating and cooling.

ZIMBA partners Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI), CEA, and OST – Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences are actively contributing to the conference programme with three research papers, addressing key technological and policy aspects of industrial heat decarbonisation:

  • ICO3.1 Design of a water-ammonia heat transformer with an ejector for low-pressure steam generation in extended operating range
  • ICO3.2 CFD-based ejector design to extend the operating range of ammonia/water absorption heat transformers
  • POS1.4 Accelerating Industrial Heat Electrification in Europe: Barriers and Policy Recommendations to Heat Pump Adoption

ZIMBA’s work is featured across key thematic tracks of the conference:

  • ICO – Innovative Components
  • POS – Policies & Strategies for Heat Pump Roll-out

Presentations will take place on 27 and 28 May 2026, offering attendees the opportunity to engage directly with the research team and explore the project’s latest results.

Participation in HPC2026 provides a valuable opportunity for the ZIMBA consortium to exchange insights with the international heat pump community, strengthen collaborations, and position the project within the broader landscape of next-generation industrial heat solutions.

The project’s contributions are driven by a multidisciplinary team, including: Hai Trieu Pham, Tommaso Toppi, Giovanni Vaghini, and Cordin Arpagaus.

By contributing to both technical and policy-oriented discussions, ZIMBA continues to support the transition towards low-carbon industrial heating systems and to advance the role of heat pump technologies in achieving Europe’s climate and energy objectives.
